I know this newsgroup is about viruses but perhaps someone will be
kind enough to give me some help because I have a big problem. I have
an old Pentium I computer (75 mhz & 730meg HD) that ran on Windows 95.
I was planning on giving it away to a needy family. For security
purposes I used a free software program(Dban) to erase the entire hard
drive. Now I am having a problem trying to get the computer to run
again. I thought I had a valid Windows 95 bootable floppy drive disk,
but it did not work. I was able to boot up using a Windows 98 floppy
drive bootable disk. Here is what happens:
Computer starts up seemingly normal and identifies the bios
It says it detects the keyboard and mouse
It then says " Hard Drive C: installed WDC AC2700H
It then says "starting Windows 98"
It goes to an A: prompt and then stops.
If I type C: it gives the message "invalid disk configuration"
If I type D: it gives the same message
I have tried using the Windows 95 installation CD as well as Windows
98 restoration and installation CD's. The computer doesn't recognize
them and instructed me to insert a bootable floppy disk.
I tried going into setup( pressing F1 key) but there were no
noticeable options or things I could do. I did check the boot order
and basically it had 4 options to choose from
1- start A then C
2- start C then A
3- just A
4- just C
I left it as it was -start A then C
I have no clue what to do. Does anyone have any advice?
